International relations, conflict and the role of inequality in world politics.

This is the academic website of Nicholas Lees, the international relations scholar.

Here you will find links to my published research and other materials.

I am interested in supervising PhD research using quantitative or comparative methods to investigate any topics related to my research specialisms.

I am also interested in academic collaboration, especially on mixed-methods projects with qualitative scholars with substantive interests similar to my own.

Academic Biography

I am an academic researcher and Lecturer in International Politics at the University of Liverpool. I received a BA in Politics and Philosophy, followed by an MA in International Relations from Warwick University, before studying towards a DPhil in International Relations at Oxford University. I held a number of temporary teaching positions at the Open University, University College Oxford and Brunel University before joining at the Department of Politics at Liverpool.

My research investigates the roles that inequality and conflict play in international relations, both theoretically and using quantitative methods. Most of my research is broadly located within the areas of conflict studies, historical sociology and political economy. I have contributed research to two special issues of academic journals focused on the concept of ‘multiplicity’ in international relations theory.

I have also attempted to contribute debates surrounding the ‘English School’, also known as the international society tradition, within international relations theory.
